Technology Fails.

Hey all, It's been a while, sadly, I have been so busy lately, I don't have much to post, except some real life pictures of my newly broken laptop... sad face

Note the new arrangement for the letters on the keyboard. This is what boredom + frustration + lack of artistic creation equals.

Still working on the website, should be up very soon, it looks amazing now, sadly all you can see if a "coming soon" screen, but please, keep visiting www.JosephArm.com

New! New!

The new site is up, but still under heavy construction, I hope to get more done this week. For now, the "Coming Soon" screen is just to look pretty and give a sneaky peak. Go check it out at:

www.josepharm.com

God that feels good to have my own name in a URL. Anyways, as far as Artwork is concerned, I have a few more pixel drawings/paintings on the way, mainly a painting on wood, but I shall be working shortly on some smaller works, more detail and better quality on some good paper. Hopefully to hit a more commercial market and sell some work ^_^

I've also been going down a bit of an illustrative character design kind of route, here's a RE-DRAW of a previous idea. Hmm I've improved, no?!

Bigger Things

It's come to a time where I believe that I may need to have my own website, a domain in my own name, a proper artist site. I have begun construction for this, and am designing screens for my new site (as well as a new business card.) Unfortunately, I myself do not know any HTML, so further assistance will be required. I don't fully understand everything I need to do, so I may have made some mistakes on my design, there's probably things I should be doing that I'm not, because the fact that I just don't know about it, anyways, designs look good nevertheless. Here's a sneak peak.

The Big Show

So the exhibition is now in full swing. The private view was on Tuesday evening and was like nothing I could ever imagined. There were a large amount of people there, and a few of my close friends sold some work. The show was fantastic. Here's what the last 3 years of my life have all been for.

.TheBigFour.

Overall the past 5-6 months have all gone solidly into this project. Today 05-06-09 I sold my first ever painting. Barack Obama sold for an undisclosed amount.

.TheArtist.

I've given out around 70 business cards so far, I've been slightly selective with my audience, trying to pick out the people who like they would buy my work or request a commission, but I've always left cards for anyone to take. Hopefully someone has seen something they like and are going to contact me, I'd love a new challenge .

I stood around my work talking to people for a while, and it's funny, I saw at least 3 people take this EXACT photograph, I guess they like the smile or something. I guess it shows the detail well. So I though I'd take the same photo too.

.MrPresidentsSmile.

.TheLineUp.

Thats all for now folks. I'm hoping to get a website up in the next few weeks, as soon as I can find someone to help me with HTML. Stay Tuned.

The World is all Square

It's been a fair amount of time since I last posted up on here, the reason for that is that I have been extremely busy with the amount of work going into this degree, It's the last few days before my deadline and work has just been completed and hung on the gallery wall.

I'll have to have a huge picture dump here. I may withhold the final result till I later date, just in case anyone IS following this, of whom I don't already know in real life and have splattered my images all over their face.

Just like all the children of the digital age, you can now (sadly) follow me on the more annoying than the name itself "Twitter"

Plagiarism

This post has nothing to do with plagiarism, but as my "friend" so kindly pointed out (to themselves and no other) the previous idea, Human torch, was a tad unoriginal, yeah I said it! Smoke, Fire, it's all the same, and it's been done. So, to carry on from my post from early today, here's a quick digi painting, it's... horrible still, if I'm honest, it looks poor and I don't much like it, but I'll keep chipping away.

Oh the colouring is so generic, shame. I also evidently did not save the latest version of it... as it isn't here, I'm seem to be losing it slightly. Oh well.

I wish I had a theme tune.

Random

I am one who believes in running several different projects simultaneously, so here's a quick sketch to feed your addiction:-

.TheHero.

This is just another attempt at drawing anatomy as well as a little bit of character design, this is based on my concept of the Hero of Zero, This does have a little story line, just to give me something to work with, but I'll keep that a secret for now, hopefully, I can actually finish something for once, and then you can see the final result.

Full Steam

WARNING:- LARGE POST

I've been fairly busy the last few days. My "Pixel Me" project has progressed somewhat, Stage 1 is now 3/4's complete.

.ShiaLaBeouf.

.BarrackObama.

Recently, I've started getting more and more interested in story boarding, a good friend of mine who I've seen develop over the last few years has been working so hard and is finally starting to break into the industry, I admire his work, and love the idea of making other peoples ideas and thoughts into physical drawings/objects, making there vision a reality. I'd hope to think that my imagination is strong enough to picture what other people are picturing and my skills are good enough to draw that exact image.

I came up with a quick idea of a man walking through the desert, who then spontaneously catches fire, only to be able to control it, a sort of human torch idea. Here is the early sketch and first attempt at digi painting, currently unsure why it's Grey scale and not flesh tones, but I'm working on it.

My work is getting much more exciting now (for me doing it at least) and I hope to have some more images to show in the near future.

Hero of Zero x3

Slightly away from my main project here, spent most of last night (about 6 hours) shifting through a website I just found, with many artists on there, got a fair amount of artist research done, as well as a new pixel self portrait and a new digi painting self portrait from a fairly recent sketch. The website I spent many hours on last night is http://www.behance.net/ if you're interested. Here's the 2 pieces I created last night:

.PixelMe.

Also this morning had some time to do another one in the same series, just from sketches, more Hero of Zero.

.HeroOfZero.

Not sure on a few things with these three pieces, firstly on the pixel piece, the hair is slightly bothering me, but overall I think I'm rather please with it, I hope to print it out on a nice glossy sheet of A2 paper. As for the digital paintings, it's a new style, looks kinda flat and messy in my opinion. Not sure on the lack of facial features, and those "blood lips" might be a tad cliche for my liking.

Sneak Peek 2

Firstly I would like to apologize in advance for the complete randomness of this entry, I am well aware at this stage it will be a bit jumpy, with many points being made. My artistic mind races, packed with ideas and theories.

Now, Progression of "The Big Four"

.DayThree.

.TakingShape.

.FullThrottle.

.DayLostCount.
(Frustration kicks in)

.Currently.

Stage 1 is half way complete, with two out of the four having their black layer done, This project still has a long way to go, and with the deadline creeping up like a world record runner/ninja, I'm starting to get a little nervous, but all should be fine. With 3 stages in total, I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

An additional note, I have been working on a portrait of Hitler, of which is the same size and style as the Churchill posted in a prior entry. It is currently at stage 2 but no picture I'm afraid, I will get a picture of them both side by side when all is finished.

I'd also like to take a second to direct your attention (if anyone is actually reading this) to the links on the top right hand side of the page, where you will find a few of my close friends and their blogs or website.

Sneak Peek

Been in the studio working on some large work now, I said I would upload some images when they are closer to completion, but these beasts are taking longer then I had imagined, so I'm going to post up a behind the scene look at the works in progress, hopefully I can carry on like this and have a nice time line and end result to show.

.TheBeginnings.

.BlackPaint.

.DayTwo.

.Current.

.CloseUp.

Each piece is almost 6foot by 4foot, with a grid that creates 22,326 squares on each piece, with a total of 89,304 squares spread across all 4 works.

This project is now in full swing, the planning stage is over, the preparation stage is also over, Here you can see how it is developing. This is just one piece of four, I will be pouring many hours into this and I can only look forward to showing the end result.

Digital Reality

These types of paintings/drawings have been my work for pretty much an entire year now, I've been working on iconic figures, painting/drawing them in a pixelated style, playing with blurriness and number of pixels needed for the face to be recognized. This particular painting is 70x50cm, acrylic on wood, of Winston Churchill. This is fairly near the middle of the project, with many drawings before, and a few paintings after. I will be working on four rather large painting, of which I will upload on a later date, nearer to completion, along with a time line of "in the making".

Pre-Birth

Origin of Name:-

"Hero of Zero was a term I created around a year ago, It's a play on a few things, firstly the actually meaning of "Hero of Zero", basically "The Hero of Nobody" this is almost a self pity thing, but also plays on the line: "what good is a hero without anyone to protect". I, myself am a person who believes in Karma and doing good. I believe that everyone is a hero, until proven otherwise. I try my best at everything I do, and I will always be the Hero of Zero."
